In case you can't tell, it's meant to be wind turbines with daffodil heads...

I personally think wind turbines can play an important role in Cumbria, they may not be the prettiest things but we need to open our eyes to the reality of our changing environment.

I used Wordsworth's poem to illustrate the beauty of wind turbines.

Allowing enough notice, the first exchange will be the end of this month, Saturday the 31st May '08. Please feel free to send before this date if you wish, and not to worry if you post it late.

A vast amount of wonderful, original approaches and entries. This is but one of many which caught my eye by artist steev-o / steve. The simplicity, yet communicating a captivating atmosphere, pure chemistry between white space and mark making.

Here are some alterations, I've addressed the awkward space between the 'C' & 'R' of Creative.

Which colour do you think works the best?

Also what do you think of the different Hues of each colour? I think they add a bit more life and vibrancy to the logo.

when i first arrived in Carlisle, (and i think chris can back me up on this) we were walking through the city centre and this almighty huge tractor was driving through blocking the the traffic (outside woolworths) being city boys from leeds (chris is a brummy!! :-D) we are not used to the tractors parading through the city centre... so that is my image of carlisle although not one of cumbria..." "The type is a traditional serif font, showing the 'traditional nature' of cumbrians. unlike the mud splatter, I have gone for paint splatter to show our artistic nature.

I have used very tight tracking with the type to show the unity of the designers involved in the exchange. I've used green as Cumbria is home to the rolling green hills of the lake district." Chris Hunt

Has anyone had any ideas on covering their books? I had bought some grass patterned fabric but was scared off by the seemingly impenetrable elasticated part!

I had thought of some sort of embellishment. Here's some ideas I found to start things off...

On the 3rd of April Rebecca sent over her logo for Creative Cumbria.

"Basically, I have taken the epitome of Cumbrian life: mud splatter, and turned it into something pretty and creative." Rebecca

Whilst emailing Rebecca, she had added to the notion of the envelope art. As we could use a basic logotype on the blog and on the envelope (which can easily be produce here) like the typography used in Rebecca's logo design below, adding to - very artistic approach. So the logo as with the 'show off' could constantly change.

Love the subtle touch of the strong line through the t and the b.

***Under Consideration - awaiting feedback

The best way to merge artwork creatively is via a Moleskine Japanese Pocket Album (Size: 9 x 14cm), this form of sketchbook would allow more flexibility.

We must be respectful, therefore if the artist pencils a cross after his/her entry then that should mean "no merging," otherwise merge away, it is totally up to the artist how they continue the composition.

Preferably, it would be advised the artist tries to complete at least 2/3 pages. (three pages making an odd number; helping fuel collaging and merging).

Another aspect which has been talked about is the actual exchanging, it has now been confirmed as by post.

Introduction

We are a group of local creatives, planning a collaboration project that will span over the summer to hopefully be available to exhibit at the end of '08 or early '09.

Concept
The initial concept is to produce a range of art books, which will be passed from creative to creative, in a relay effect. Each creative will be invited to add their own entry, in any style or form they wish. At present, there will be 15 art books in circulation, each started by a different creative. Creatives can choose what format they wish their art book to be, and are invited to give their book an identity by decorating the cover with any design they wish.

Theme
Creatives will be inspired by Cumbria itself.

Aim
Creative Cumbria aims to promote local creatives, their talents and also the local area. Many creatives in Cumbria feel overlooked in the creative industry, by drawing attention to the many talents hidden away in Cumbria, we hope to promote the region and produce an intriguing exhibition.
